Finding Numerical Relationships in Architecture

In the May, 1993, issue of the CSA Newsletter was a short item about the development of software to assist with analyzing building dimensions. The software enables scholars to locate mathematical relationships between and among parts of buildings. The test case, the Cistercian Abbey of Ebrach and its chapel of St. Michael, was discussed briefly.

A scholarly publication of the use of the software and the results of the study has appeared in the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, Vol. 53, no. 4, pp. 448-460. The authors are Wolfgang Wiemer and Gerhard Wetzel; the article is entitled "A Report on Data Analysis of Building Geometry by Computer."
